locking in for a shift at the thinking about rinda/kenna factory before I go unconscious. I think the very core of it (assuming rwi/rwo and not the post-orthus offensive version which is a much worse rekindling of a prior spark) is kenna desperately seeking some gallant knight (on the Mourningstar this is Faustus. or Kal. two very different vibes) to protect them and then, far gone in delusion, slotting Rinda into that role even though she does not fulfill it. And it’s a fairly conscious delusion, too, Kenna is aware that if they get the chance to slip their leash ever they’re going to wreak a carnage that will take months of recover from. But it’s nice. They’re not afraid to twist their perception of Rinda into something that she isn’t, because even under it all Kenna is of the opinion that they want to take her apart.

on Rinda’s side she knows something is up, she is aware of the dangerous game(tm) and fully conscious that she’s playing with fire. but at the same time she likes feeling powerful. she likes exercising that power over other people. she has a big ego and she is also very easily provoked. This all combines to form a perfect storm of her being susceptible to Kenna giving her attention (and wanting her attention in return) and being so charmingly naive about her. Because Rinda is definitely a TRAITOR, but she’s not a cultist! (yet). She’s NOT a part of the cult that’s in the process of stripping Kenna’s sense of self away! And in fact, being around her and having her attention provides some small bit of protection FROM continued manipulations of the cult. except— crucially— Kenna is not naive. Kenna was never naive, only good at being what people expect them to be, which is how they survived so long in the first place. At each juncture Rinda is the one with all the power, but Kenna (with LoC wingmanning) can take advantage of that.

I’m so hesitant to make a throwaway agitator for some special witch bonding time with Kenna bc I know I’m going to get extremely attached but at the same time I hesitate to ask for shared custody of somebody else’s agitator (for some special witch bonding time with Kenna) because that’s. it’s

the initial conceit was an au kenna that got picked up by wolfer in the tancred bastion (en route to a black ship!). he offered them mercy, and more than that, purpose. they started small, as an oracle, and in that they were helpful... until they started hearing a new call in the multitude of voices, and found it so pleasant and welcoming that they happily chased it into oblivion. wolfer feeds them loyalists. eventually grendyl is like hey that thing's got to go and sends rejects at them, and kenna doesn't really understand that all their new visitors are sent there to kill them until like, the climax of the final mission (a special operation like karnak assassination). then they predictably flip the f*ck out, panic, and flee their safehouse. the rejects can then track them to the carnival.

the end boss battle would take place in the carnival ampitheatre with kenna forcing the roof closed with daemonic growths, and the rejects having to scamper around to destroy them and allow masozi and borovitch to hit them with missiles and weaken them enough for the rejects to transition to the final phase of the fight, which is just grabbing a harpoon and bringing them down lol.

I don’t have the screenshots to back it up rn because I’m getting ready to sleep but mfanatic really is just unimaginably gentle with fseer compared to some of the sh*t that comes out of his mouth at any other given time. i’m thinking primarily of the voice lines where he pushes back on fseer talking about their dream, when fseer chides him for drinking too much, that one bonding convo where they comment about how he’s always frowning, and again the fact that he tells them stories aboard the valkyrie

Ironically I think having Kal be the way that he is (happily non-op, non-t, zero effort put into passing, nevertheless rock-solid in his identity) and having Isi be the way he is (painstaking routines, voice training, medically transitioned) has been instrumental in helping me be more comfortable with not being able to medically transition yet

zedposting I spent a solid twenty minutes today thinking about how it gets onto the Mourningstar (after having been in transit, as transport, really little more than cargo) for a month if not longer and has to immediately go through an intake, a medical exam, gets talked and and poked and prodded and then thrown into the veteran barracks. it gets actual medical treatment. It gets increased rations to try and get it to a healthy target weight for its height and age. And most incriminatingly it (kind of) integrated into the vet frat and loses card games for the rest of its life
