Joseph Michael “Mick” Pflum of Harrodsburg, KY, gained eternal rest on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, at the age of 87. Mick was one of three children and the only son born to the late Alfred Bernard and Edna Mary (Puckett) Pflum. He was born on Monday, March 29th, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mick spent his younger years in Marion County and graduated from Southport High School with the class of 1955. On June 23rd, 1956, Mick married the love of his life, Lois Jeanne (Dunlap) Pflum. They lived in Southern Marion County until 1984, when they moved to Morgan County, making Martinsville their home for the following thirty-five years.
After graduation, he worked for Western-Electric before gaining employment with Eli Lilly & Company in Indianapolis. He dedicated thirty-six years of his life to Eli Lilly, working as the truck fleet manager, retiring in 1993.
In 2019 the couple moved to Harrodsburg, KY where Mick continued on as a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Harrodsburg and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. Prior to moving to Kentucky, he was a dedicated member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Martinsville.
Mick was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, shooting, racing and horses. He also took pleasure in metal fabrication and building hot rods.
He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends including his wife of sixty-eight years, Jeanne Pflum of Harrodsburg, KY; two sons, Michael W. (wife, Valarie) Pflum of Martinsville, IN, and Mark J. (wife, Janet) Pflum of Lake Placid, Florida; and daughter, Sandra J. (husband, Michael) Jordan of Salvisa, KY. He also leaves behind two sisters, Rosemary (husband, Bill) Draper of Mooresville, IN, and Claire (husband, Harry) Slick of Indianapolis, IN; Mick and Jeanne have seven beloved grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering on Saturday, September 14th from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Neal & Summers Funeral Home in Martinsville, followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial beginning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. After the Celebration of Life Service, there will then be a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12 Noon at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1709 E. Harrison St., Martinsville, IN, with inurnment to follow in St. Martin’s Cemetery.
